Coach Chic has been running Learn-to programs for close to 40-years. And, while kids always left those programs with great skills, they often experienced some frustrations at their first youth hockey tryouts. (What a lot of past hockey parents indicated was that their youngsters were more than a little intimidated because they didn't know what others did when it came to playing or scrimmaging at tryouts.)
Yes, the kids could ultimately skate, handle a puck and shoot when they left. However, they had no clue about even sitting on a team bench, lining-up for face-offs, or dealing with the simplest of hockey rules.
That, quite obviously, was the inspiration behind our first NEHI Mighty Mite team in 2009-10. Now, with the combined efforts of our current coaches, team parents, and the Bridgewater Bandits, new league members should leave this program in the spring with a pretty good understanding of their game.
Much more help is on the way over coming days. But, the bare essentials are here -- for families to register, for coaches to track their rosters, and for parents to begin helping their youngsters at home.
